Lions QB Matthew Stafford was able to march his team down the field and hit TE T.J. Hockenson for a touchdown to set up PK Matt Prater‘s game-winning extra point. The Panthers lost 27-24 on the road against a banged-up New Orleans Saints squad Sunday. Falcons at Panthers: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Falcons 26, Panthers 21

Money line (?)

The FALCONS (+120) carry good value into their rematch with the rival Panthers (-143). Carolina is expected to still be without its best player in McCaffrey and the Falcons’ passing game has re-established itself as one of the best in the league.

The injuries to two key Panthers O-linemen also loom large and could help spark a Falcons pass rush with just 10 sacks through 7 games. The Panthers are generating even less pressure with 6 sacks.

Prior to their Week 5 loss to the Panthers, the Falcons had won each of the previous five and eight of the last nine head-to-head meetings.

Against the spread (?)

The value is with the Falcons’ money line, but ATLANTA +2 (-110) should still be backed for extra insurance. The Falcons have twice lost by just a single point.

Over/Under (?)

Lean to the UNDER 51.5 (-115) with three of the last four TNF games falling shy of this mark. The Week 5 meeting between the Falcons and Panthers also saw a total of just 39 points scored.

For as maligned as the Falcons are – especially on defense – their last three opponents have each scored just 23 points.

Panthers at Falcons: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction

Prediction

Panthers 31, Falcons 27

Money line (?)

The Falcons (-118) can’t keep the opposition off the scoreboard right now. They’re giving up big plays and failing to get timely stops. Injuries are also expected to play a factor with Jones not practicing Thursday and Ridley limited coming off a 5-target, 0-catch performance against the Packers.

The PANTHERS (+100) have been one of the surprise teams of the 2020 season under first-year head coach Matt Rhule. They’re coming off wins over the Los Angeles Chargers (21-16) and Arizona Cardinals (31-21) and will snap their skid against their division rival with an upset road win Sunday.

Against the spread (?)

The value of plus-money for the outright win for the Panthers is much more enticing, but CAROLINA +1.5 (-110) should also be backed on the spread for added insurance. The small number can come into play with a missed kick or failed two-point conversion.

Over/Under (?)

The OVER 53.5 (-110) is the best play of the game. Carolina scored a season-high 31 points last week and previously allowed 30-plus points in back-to-back games to open the season. Atlanta has allowed at least 30 points in each game.
